BASF ecovio® Compostable Polymers
Looking for a bio-based polymer? BASF ecovio® is based on polylactic acid (PLA) which is derived from corn. This composition makes it more resistant to mechanical stress and moisture, compared to other starch-based bioplastics. Check out the list of our most common ecovio® products in various flexible and rigid applications, and see if ecovio® would be right for your project.
ecovio® is a high quality, certified compostable product from BASF that also has a bio-based content. The bio-based content varies depending on the specific ecovio® grade. ecovio® consists of the compostable BASF polymer ecoflex®, and polylactic acid (PLA) which is derived from corn. Compared to simple starch-based bioplastics, ecovio® is better able to handle higher mechanical stresses and moisture. ecovio® is well suited for plastic film in applications such as organic waste bags, dual-use bags, agricultural film, shrink films, and paper coating. ecovio® can also be used in injection molding applications such as disposable plates, cups and tableware
