ASCEND VYDYNE® Nylon Feedstock Resins for Compounding
Nylon, or polyamide, is one of the most widely used engineering resins, and for good reasons. It offers excellent temperature resistance, chemical resistance, impact resistance, friction and wear properties and high mechanical strength and stiffness and it can be easily modified with various additives and reinforcements which can extend its performance even more. Nylon resins and compounds are used in a wide range of industries including packaging, automotive, power engineering, material-handling, plumbing and sanitation, household goods and many others.
Applications Include
While a number of these applications utilize unfilled nylon resins, the vast majority require nylon compounds that incorporate glass fibers, minerals or other reinforcements as well as antioxidants, UV stabilizers, flame retardants and colorants. These reinforcements and additives are incorporated into the nylon resin by a process called compounding. While these reinforcements and additives are critical in developing many of the final compound properties, the nylon feedstock resin that is used is equally important. Entec Polymers supplies high quality VYDYNE® nylon 66 and nylon 66/6 copolymer feedstock resins from Ascend Performance Materials. These feedstock resins differ in their viscosity, moisture content, color (yellowness index) or other key characteristics. This allows the compounder to select the most appropriate feedstock resin to meet the specific requirements of their formulation and application needs. The low viscosity VYDYNE® feedstock resins are ideal when working with temperature sensitive additives, high filler loadings or formulations requiring higher flow characteristics in the final compound. Medium and high viscosity feedstock grades can be utilized for compounds needing high melt strength or good overall properties that come from their higher molecular weight. VYDYNE® 21Z-NT01A2 is a new product that is unique in that it has a high concentrate of amine end groups which is very suitable for moisture sensitive formulations. The medium viscosity VYDYNE® nylon 66/6 copolymer find use in compounds containing heat-sensitive additives or end-use applications requiring a very good surface appearance.
