Styrene acrylonitrile (SAN) is an amorphous, transparent polymer produced by reacting styrene with acrylonitrile. This results in a polymer with characteristics of both styrene and acrylonitrile. Styrene provides transparency, stiffness and good processability, while acrylonitrile provides hardness, rigidity, heath resistance and chemical resistance. SAN can be processed by injection molding, extrusion, and blow molding. Common applications include battery cases, water filters, housewares, drinkware, bathroom fittings, brush handles, automotive components, appliances and carrier resins for color concentrates.
