Polyethylene, Very Low Density (VLDPE)
Very Low Density Polyethylene (VLDPE) is a type of LLDPE that contains a higher comonomer content which provides for lower crystallinity and lower density that more standard LLDPE products. VLDPE has a density in the range of 0.885 to 0.915 g/cm3. VLDPE offers improved puncture resistance, dart impact, tear resistance, low temperature toughness, heat seal and hot tack strength compared to traditional LLDPE resins. VLDPE is most commonly processed by profile extrusion and film extrusion although it can be injection molded. Typical applications include flexible tubing, bag-in-box, low temperature packaging, ice bags, shrink bags, medical packaging, flexible hoses and as a cling layer in stretch films.
