Elastomer, Ethylene-based (Ethylene Elastomer)
Ethylene based elastomers and plastomers (POE and POP) are produced using metallocene catalysts that allow for higher levels of alpha-olefins to be incorporated into the chemical structure. This produces ethylene elastomers with lower hardness, lower density, lower melting points, and higher elastomeric characteristics. While POE's and POP's can be used alone, they are often blended into polyethylene or polypropylene to improve flexibility and impact performance. Common applications include their use as tie layers or abuse layers in film packaging, as impact modifiers in polyolefin compounds, as carrier resin for color and additive concentrates, in hose and tube, and in molded or extruded applications requiring higher flexibility and lower hardness compared to traditional polyethylene.
