Extrusion, Sheet

Sheet extrusion is a process of extruding a wide, thin layer of molten plastic through a flat die and then onto a chilled roller that immediately begins to cool the molten plastic. The plastic is then fed between additional rollers to continue to cool the sheet and press it into the desired thickness. The rollers are often highly polished to produce a sheet with high gloss, or sometimes textured or embossed to produce a sheet with other surface effects. This process is similar to cast film extrusion. Film with a thickness above 0.25 mm is considered sheet.
